The End of a Kidnapper

There was a sensational kidnapping incident in Taiwan that happened five years ago. The victim in this case was a famous actress’s little girl. For this reason, the police used reinforcements to attempt to capture the criminal.

On 24th December 1999, I turned on the television and watched the news, when I got home. Unexpectedly, news of a kidnapping caught my attention, because a famous actress’ named, Bai, was mentioned. Firstly I supposed she had been kidnapped, but it was her only daughter who had been. She called a press conference to ask the kidnapper to release her child and appealed to the public for help. Including me, everyone had sympathy for her. We prayed for her, that everything would be fine. In addition, the police had found the criminal’s trail and had publicized his picture. I believed police would catch him soon.

However, a few days later, the unscrupulous criminal sent a finger to Bai, her daughter’s finger. Bai had withstood the pressure for a long time, but she couldn’t take it anymore. She almost collapsed. One journalist on TV cried with her. In Taiwan, we always say that a mother’s heart is joined to her children’s fingers. The police announced that this criminal had also shot some people and raped some women during his escape. Everyone was furious and demanded the police capture him quickly. The kidnapper wad found and caught in a fight. The public and Bai had waited for this for a long time, but the most important thing was, where was the child? Sadly, the child had been killed and buried in the forest.
In conclusion, the kidnapper was arrested by police for kidnapping. After a few days, he appeared in the court and was sentenced to death. This event shocked Taiwanese society deeply. However, people love each other more in the face of such sad events.

Freedom of Information

It 's very important to me to have unrestricted freedom of information. Freedom of information can enable me to search for facts or materials without limitations. I can reach a correct conclusion by comparing different opinions. If information is limited, we all may live in the world of untruth. For example, people go to a library to search for information, and of the books all are controlled by authorities our opinions will be insipid and no innovation. The nation will be weak.

I think my government and the broadcasting corporations have made deals in order to control news sources because authorities want to benefit from the news. In Taiwan, some news channels always report the positive policies of the government. Once a journalist wanted to disclose the government of corruption but his boss blocked it that.

The news on TV, nowadays, is becoming a product which just wants to get good rating without in-depth or questioning reporting. When I was a student reporter, I saw many journalists falsify the news to acquire a high rating. Eventually, other reporters copied that. I strongly distrust the news on TV. In addition, the politicians often use the media, especially the television, and make some false agendas to attack their opponents.

Sometimes governments impose controls on the feedom of the press which is very dangerous. In Taiwan, this situation once happened and caused a huge protestation. People want objective news that isn't imposed by the government. If the government consistently wants to control the whole communications. they will be eliminated by people.

TECHNOLOGY-POLLUTION

I think technology makes our world become civilized and we will further benefit from it. Technology constructs many products such as cars, ships, aircrafts, spacecraft and many kinds of vehicles. In addition, computers and the Internet were the most important inventions because for a long time, these have given us a better quality of life.

For long time ago, People even considered the earth a flat land, nowdays, the people have known the world is round because of technology. I believe technology's development is going to bring more and more knowledge for us and we can get the information from the whole world better than beore.

On the other hand, I think we have too much information about the world and neglect to protect the world. Pollution is more serious than before. The human just want the resources of the earth and exhaust so many contaminant if we don't do anything to prevent this thhing from getting worse. Our earth's environment will become dangerous than before.
