The End of a Kidnapper

There was a sensational kidnapping incident in Taiwan that happened five years ago. The victim in this case was a famous actress’s little girl. For this reason, the police used reinforcements to attempt to capture the criminal.

On 24th December 1999, I turned on the television and watched the news, when I got home. Unexpectedly, news of a kidnapping caught my attention, because a famous actress’ named, Bai, was mentioned. Firstly I supposed she had been kidnapped, but it was her only daughter who had been. She called a press conference to ask the kidnapper to release her child and appealed to the public for help. Including me, everyone had sympathy for her. We prayed for her, that everything would be fine. In addition, the police had found the criminal’s trail and had publicized his picture. I believed police would catch him soon.

However, a few days later, the unscrupulous criminal sent a finger to Bai, her daughter’s finger. Bai had withstood the pressure for a long time, but she couldn’t take it anymore. She almost collapsed. One journalist on TV cried with her. In Taiwan, we always say that a mother’s heart is joined to her children’s fingers. The police announced that this criminal had also shot some people and raped some women during his escape. Everyone was furious and demanded the police capture him quickly. The kidnapper wad found and caught in a fight. The public and Bai had waited for this for a long time, but the most important thing was, where was the child? Sadly, the child had been killed and buried in the forest.
In conclusion, the kidnapper was arrested by police for kidnapping. After a few days, he appeared in the court and was sentenced to death. This event shocked Taiwanese society deeply. However, people love each other more in the face of such sad events.

這短短約18公分長的神奇吸管，從創意的發想、產品研發到商品化，卻足足花了七年的時間。1997年時，Unistraw首席發明長巴倫（Peter Baron）對生活中一個再普通不過的現象提出問號，他疑惑著：為什麼市售的調味乳都那麼甜，且價格比起鮮奶還貴三倍呢？於是乎，他決定替牛奶創造新的選擇。首先，他將調味粉末填塞進普通的吸管中，然後套上絲襪做為濾網以防粉末掉出，這個粗糙簡略的裝置，正是神奇吸管的原形。此後七年，他經過一次又一次的試驗，讓牛奶口味更多元、成分更營養，方便使用且新鮮好玩的神奇吸管終於誕生。特殊構造，可望升級營養補充媒介這個產品雖然概念簡單，但從管子的粗細、調味顆粒的成分、堵住前後端的過濾器，到自動化生產的機器都是學問，Unistraw為此也特別申請了專利保護，雖然過程所費不貲，卻成功阻止同業搶進此一市場。

雀巢公司（Nestle）就曾試圖在英國推出類似的產品－魔術吸管，經過一場法律攻防戰，倫敦最高法院裁定雀巢的魔術吸管行銷與販售只能限於英國，由專利構築起的防護網，讓食品界龍頭也難越雷池一步。有了神奇吸管，牛奶從此變好喝，且口味眾多，不會過甜，神奇吸管在美國大型連鎖餐廳Denny’s 半年的試賣期，讓牛奶銷售量平均成長了55％，在澳洲，甚至成為快樂兒童餐的選項，小朋友對牛奶的接受度也大大提高，替擔心小孩不喝牛奶的媽媽們解決了難題，Unistraw甚至還將客群進一步拓展，推出濃縮咖啡、摩卡、卡布奇諾等多種成人口味。

Unistraw的雄心還不僅於此，可以讓飲料變好喝，當然也可變得更營養。譬如加入電解質成為運動飲料、加入維他命、礦物質以補充營養，甚至跨入醫藥界，成為吞嚥藥物有困難的小孩與老人服藥的媒介。一如執行長查姆士所言：「吸管的發明就像建好了高速公路，接下來，我們要讓它充滿車輛！」

The Last Day of This Session

It's the day I graduated again, no exciding, no passion and no more feeling. Sometimes I just forgot where I was and why I was here. Maybe I couldn't be so strict to the QUT, but if you stay in the Langports. I will understand why I said that.

I brought my DVD today, because nobody wanted to study. The name of the movie is The Legend of 1900. The story is talking about a piano musician whoes autobiography. In spite of it's not a real story, the content of the film is still moving everybody. There are lots of performances of piano, it's just fantastic. I think it was my favourite time today, except tonoght, ha.

In the end of morning class, the teacher gave us our result of this session. I had a lot of questions. I really wanted to be promoted to another stage, because this class which I had done everything before. I'd've gotten nothing, if I'd stayed in the same class. My friend, Chamara, who is good at English said that's unfair to me. He asked me to see the coordinator, so I went to see him with my morning teacher.

I still have remembered my ex-homestaypa told me, if you don't like somebody, the guy doesn't like you also. During this session, I sometimes even felt I hated here, but usually thinked about my homepa's words, maybe the school hated me, too. Therefore, I will manage to find some strengths to love this course. However, my exam is coming soon again and test myself how good I am.

Everything is Going to Change

Today is twentieth December, because it's a half pass twelve now. I have already felt better after 4 weeks, however it's still something annoying me.

At present, I don't know how to describe this circumstance. The feeling is like asphyxia in a black hole. Maybe I'm just feeling lonely, moreover the best friends is going to another city or coming back to Tawan. For this reason, I went to many places with friends who would leave. It might be a destiny, God wants me to study hard and it's time to do it.

I know it's ridiculous, but I really need some inspirations to encourage me now. In the new school, the best friends are going to be lost and lost. At the end of the session, including my friends and I, we didn't like to make friends at this period, because the classmates were changing very quickly. Sometimes, we just made good friends, but they would leave next week?! It let me frustrate.

It's not a good habit, I know, but...... maybe I have to change this phenomenon. Please give me any suggestion, if you have any idea. Anyway, It's 1:27AM, I have to go to bed, in spite of I am reluctant to go to school. I will be brave to face my future. It's my responsibility.

Make Up My Mind

So many people who I've known will leave Brisbane within 2 months, I don't know why I feel a little bit lonely. After some graduation and farewell parties, the reluctant feeling was spreading my heart.

In the past few days, I have already attended many parties of graduation of my best friends. Priska, a nice Swiss girl, the first day I knew her was an orange. We had to make a sentence which was about something in the room, but the first letter was O. I completely had no idea what I could make, so I just said Orange in the room....ha. Later, It's her turn. The letter was A. She just said Apple...ha. After that, we've just called each other Apple and Orange. Her speaking is stronger, so I like to speak with her and practice my speaking. However, she will go back to Switzerland. I wish her will have a good lifetime in the future.

Michi, a Japanese girl who is a brain researcher. What an amazing job, in other words, she is a high level intelligentsia. I admire her for studying hard and clever. However, I just knew her just a few weeks and then I graduated. We still connect with each other, I attended the graduation the day before yesterday and she was also great. We were chatting about now and future, what we will have any plan. I think I will go to Japan one day, I hope I can meet her again.

Tara, ha, she is the most mature 18-year-old girl who I've never seen. She has gone back to Taiwan. During this period when she was in Brisbane, I was delighted to meet her. Every time, if she was in the party as well, the party would be very active. Although she's just 18 years old, she always said to me, how old are you, Kevin?, because if we made a joke to her, she often said that to retort us. It's really a funny and I am starting missing her right now......

Now, I am in the new school, but I usually would go back to the Langports and met my teachers and friends. However, Jill, Nick and so many best friends all will go back Taiwan soon. My friend, Mason, reminds me of this half year is the most important for me. After they go beck, I have make up my mind and keep studying hard. Recently, I confront some problems, but I am very glad to know many friends over here. They are used to give me useful suggestions, when I got some problems. Recently, the change is necessary because there is no one can help you. Just you can change and become better, if I do it and it's worked. I will tell you I make it.^^

Formosa, Taiwan was called Formosa long time ago. The meaning is a beautiful island.

I've really wanted to show my foreign friends about my country, in spite of some friends have already known that, the most people don't. Luckily, I am checking my E-Mail in the ILC Class now. That's really touch my heart, so I want to share with all my best friends. When you see these videos, you will see about my country.

However, the political issue is still a enormous controversy which will block our development. Not only domestic problem, but also the Chinese Government. Actually, the most youngers don't care about the politics even if my Chinese acquaintance, they never talk about that. Unfortunately, I still meet a Chinese who talked about the politics. This was my first time, but I just told him that I think this problem is not you or I can solve that, that is just a game for the politicians, so don't be a joke by them.

Recently, I met some new friends in my new school. I love to introduce my country to everybody. Some best friends will go to Taiwan on someday. I will guide them to visit eveywhere. I think there will be more and more people know about Taiwan and they will support us as unofficial aspect.
