Happy New Year 2008

Here I come !!!

It's my first time have a New Year celebration in the foreign country, although it's raining so far. In fact, we wanted to go to Gold Coast, because my sharehouse owner recommended us to celebrate in there was more interesting than Brisbane. However, we watched TV in the morning, all of the celebrations were canceled, including the Firework Show.

For this reason, we made a decision to stay in Brisbane, because there still was a firework show, although people said it's not splendid in Brisbane. However, I though its our last chance. At the moment, I felt it's really a worst New Year Eve I have never seen. But you know, it's always a miracle happened in New Year.

Today, we got a now sharemate who is from Korea, a pretty girl. We invited her to go to a scenic hill and after then going to the Pub.

The view was splendid and we watched the firework was good. There were a lot of Aussies over there. When we counted down to welcome 2008, they're all very excited to yell, HAPPY NEW YEAR and danced straightly. We wanted to participate in this atmosphere so we went to a big pub named Chalk Hotel. So many people were over there, dancing and drinking. What a mavelous day.^_^

Overall, we supposed we might have to stay at home, but we always fought another way to do. Actually, it's a new year so I think I have to change something, my mind, my life. I don't know what happened in the future, but I need more patience to focus on something what I want. New Year I hope it's a new start.

Boxing Day

Today is the Boxing day, it's my first time to hear that, because we don't have this holiday. Therefore it was fascinated to look forward to waiting for.

From yesterday, we had a party in my sharehouse. Before then, we went to the city and bought some ingredients. I found a circumstance which there were a few people in the city. Almost people in the city who were Asians or people from other countries. It's just like Chinese New Year Eve. Everybody would go back home with their families. Particularly when I went to a Pub, a block lady chatted with us and asked that why we weren't with our families. After she knowed we were overseas students, she invited us to her house and ate lunch, becsue she felt we were poor. For this reason, I know how important on this holiday.

Brisbane, it's just like a dead town at Christmas. Everything was closed. Strange for us, for instance, it would be hilarious on Christmas in Taiwan. Every shopping mall would be open whole day, 24 hours. You could find many shows outside and wouldn't feel bored. It's very similar to Korea and Japan. Sometimes I feel Aussie not really want to earn the money, because the welfare is too good to work hard. I can't understand and it's piece of cake for Asian businessman defeat Aussie. Whatever, it's culture for this country. By the way, we visited a church which took place Mass. However, We were walking home by one hour, because we missed the bus.==

In the Boxing Day, many people went shopping in the city. I was astonished to see that was completely distinct to yesterday. I was difficult to move on in the shopping mall, moreover everything was on sale, because it's Boxing Day, I think. Why do they call the Boxing Day? From the word, they would open their presents on Boxing Day. By the way, I know this day because a Hong Kong girl, Hong Kong was belonged Britain before, they still have some customs there. We felt excited to this, not about this specific day, everything was on sale, especially food. You know, the price in here is more expensive than the U.S.A., that lets us feel sucks.

However, we went shopping whole day, other people were crazy for clothes, accessories and so on. I will feel extravagant and guilty, if I buy one of them. When I buy something, I will assess it's practical or not and control my expenses. I think it's really easy to earn the money from women. There were tens of thousands women in the department stores and boutiques. They were filled in there.== God...... I hope I can pass the exam as fast as I can, that's why I am here, I will remind myself of studying hard every day. Godspeed.

The End of a Kidnapper

There was a sensational kidnapping incident in Taiwan that happened five years ago. The victim in this case was a famous actress’s little girl. For this reason, the police used reinforcements to attempt to capture the criminal.

On 24th December 1999, I turned on the television and watched the news, when I got home. Unexpectedly, news of a kidnapping caught my attention, because a famous actress’ named, Bai, was mentioned. Firstly I supposed she had been kidnapped, but it was her only daughter who had been. She called a press conference to ask the kidnapper to release her child and appealed to the public for help. Including me, everyone had sympathy for her. We prayed for her, that everything would be fine. In addition, the police had found the criminal’s trail and had publicized his picture. I believed police would catch him soon.

However, a few days later, the unscrupulous criminal sent a finger to Bai, her daughter’s finger. Bai had withstood the pressure for a long time, but she couldn’t take it anymore. She almost collapsed. One journalist on TV cried with her. In Taiwan, we always say that a mother’s heart is joined to her children’s fingers. The police announced that this criminal had also shot some people and raped some women during his escape. Everyone was furious and demanded the police capture him quickly. The kidnapper wad found and caught in a fight. The public and Bai had waited for this for a long time, but the most important thing was, where was the child? Sadly, the child had been killed and buried in the forest.
In conclusion, the kidnapper was arrested by police for kidnapping. After a few days, he appeared in the court and was sentenced to death. This event shocked Taiwanese society deeply. However, people love each other more in the face of such sad events.

The Last Day of This Session

It's the day I graduated again, no exciding, no passion and no more feeling. Sometimes I just forgot where I was and why I was here. Maybe I couldn't be so strict to the QUT, but if you stay in the Langports. I will understand why I said that.

I brought my DVD today, because nobody wanted to study. The name of the movie is The Legend of 1900. The story is talking about a piano musician whoes autobiography. In spite of it's not a real story, the content of the film is still moving everybody. There are lots of performances of piano, it's just fantastic. I think it was my favourite time today, except tonoght, ha.

In the end of morning class, the teacher gave us our result of this session. I had a lot of questions. I really wanted to be promoted to another stage, because this class which I had done everything before. I'd've gotten nothing, if I'd stayed in the same class. My friend, Chamara, who is good at English said that's unfair to me. He asked me to see the coordinator, so I went to see him with my morning teacher.

I still have remembered my ex-homestaypa told me, if you don't like somebody, the guy doesn't like you also. During this session, I sometimes even felt I hated here, but usually thinked about my homepa's words, maybe the school hated me, too. Therefore, I will manage to find some strengths to love this course. However, my exam is coming soon again and test myself how good I am.

Everything is Going to Change

Today is twentieth December, because it's a half pass twelve now. I have already felt better after 4 weeks, however it's still something annoying me.

At present, I don't know how to describe this circumstance. The feeling is like asphyxia in a black hole. Maybe I'm just feeling lonely, moreover the best friends is going to another city or coming back to Tawan. For this reason, I went to many places with friends who would leave. It might be a destiny, God wants me to study hard and it's time to do it.

I know it's ridiculous, but I really need some inspirations to encourage me now. In the new school, the best friends are going to be lost and lost. At the end of the session, including my friends and I, we didn't like to make friends at this period, because the classmates were changing very quickly. Sometimes, we just made good friends, but they would leave next week?! It let me frustrate.

It's not a good habit, I know, but...... maybe I have to change this phenomenon. Please give me any suggestion, if you have any idea. Anyway, It's 1:27AM, I have to go to bed, in spite of I am reluctant to go to school. I will be brave to face my future. It's my responsibility.

Make Up My Mind

So many people who I've known will leave Brisbane within 2 months, I don't know why I feel a little bit lonely. After some graduation and farewell parties, the reluctant feeling was spreading my heart.

In the past few days, I have already attended many parties of graduation of my best friends. Priska, a nice Swiss girl, the first day I knew her was an orange. We had to make a sentence which was about something in the room, but the first letter was O. I completely had no idea what I could make, so I just said Orange in the room....ha. Later, It's her turn. The letter was A. She just said Apple...ha. After that, we've just called each other Apple and Orange. Her speaking is stronger, so I like to speak with her and practice my speaking. However, she will go back to Switzerland. I wish her will have a good lifetime in the future.

Michi, a Japanese girl who is a brain researcher. What an amazing job, in other words, she is a high level intelligentsia. I admire her for studying hard and clever. However, I just knew her just a few weeks and then I graduated. We still connect with each other, I attended the graduation the day before yesterday and she was also great. We were chatting about now and future, what we will have any plan. I think I will go to Japan one day, I hope I can meet her again.

Tara, ha, she is the most mature 18-year-old girl who I've never seen. She has gone back to Taiwan. During this period when she was in Brisbane, I was delighted to meet her. Every time, if she was in the party as well, the party would be very active. Although she's just 18 years old, she always said to me, how old are you, Kevin?, because if we made a joke to her, she often said that to retort us. It's really a funny and I am starting missing her right now......

Now, I am in the new school, but I usually would go back to the Langports and met my teachers and friends. However, Jill, Nick and so many best friends all will go back Taiwan soon. My friend, Mason, reminds me of this half year is the most important for me. After they go beck, I have make up my mind and keep studying hard. Recently, I confront some problems, but I am very glad to know many friends over here. They are used to give me useful suggestions, when I got some problems. Recently, the change is necessary because there is no one can help you. Just you can change and become better, if I do it and it's worked. I will tell you I make it.^^

* Taiwan * My Beautiful Country

Formosa, Taiwan was called Formosa long time ago. The meaning is a beautiful island.

I've really wanted to show my foreign friends about my country, in spite of some friends have already known that, the most people don't. Luckily, I am checking my E-Mail in the ILC Class now. I heard a mail from my Taiwanese friend, Rose, she sent me a website. http://www.youtube.com/v/gRu2oK0Kqc4 that is playing the Twaiwanese Video. That's really touch my heart, so I want to share with all my best friends. When you see these videos, you will see about my country.

However, the political issue is still a enormous controversy which will block our development. Not only domestic problem, but also the Chinese Government. Actually, the most youngers don't care about the politics even if my Chinese acquaintance, they never talk about that. Unfortunately, I still meet a Chinese who talked about the politics. This was my first time, but I just told him that I think this problem is not you or I can solve that, that is just a game for the politicians, so don't be a joke by them.

Recently, I met some new friends in my new school. I love to introduce my country to everybody. Some best friends will go to Taiwan on someday. I will guide them to visit eveywhere. I think there will be more and more people know about Taiwan and they will support us as unofficial aspect. West End Traditional Market

Today is my last day in my friend's house. I've appreciated a lot that she cleaned a room, and prepared some foods for me. I am really happy to stay in here. However, it's too far to go to school on time. Last week, the teacher warned me that if I didn't go to school on time, I would get nothing in here. Fortunately, I found something to intrigue me to get up early.

I think I have to cherish the friends who help me a lot, because them, I have accommodation to live, something or somewhere I couldn't find, they always help me find out. In here, Aussie, although you have to speak English a lot, you still need some friends who can chat with you and know what do you think, what do you worry about? It's really a difficult and lonely life, especially you have an important examination that means you have to study extremely hard. No playing No fun, just learning English.

However, you have to go outside to take a break, because you are in Australia which has a lot of beautiful places. For instance, Mountain Cootha, Byron By, Moreton Island, Lone Pine and so on. You can visit the marvellous views and feel comfortable. After then, you will know why you have to go traveling, because you will relax and have more and more spirit to push you to get the fantastic achievement. Today, I went to the West End Market. It's my first time to see the traditional market in Aussie. I suppose that there are just supermarket in here, but the price of the food in the West End Market is really cheap. I supposed I was in Taiwan for a while.

Definitely, I am going to miss many friends, especially the Christmas is coming soon. The lonely and......I don't want to think deeply, because...I don't know......what will be happened? The Brisbane has already got on furnishing the atmosphere of Christmas. In addition, the city is getting active. I wish... oh no.. I hope this year the Christmas' Day will be different and become what I want. Bless me, please.

BASEBALL

This is our super power hitter in last Olympic.

This was a exciting baseball match today and it is the opening match of KONAMI CUP, fortunately, the result is good because we won the game. Although we were versus China, we just got one point before the 6th inning, and China had already gotten 4 points.

Auspiciously, Chen, Lian-Hong, Chen, Jin-Feng's older brother, hit a grand slam, and after his grand slam, another player hit a solo home run. You know, before these performances I was very worry and a little anger, because I thought this was a very easy to get the victory. Recently, China's Baseball is growing up fast. We have to watch out, I don't want to see that their first win is from Taiwan, I can't accept it.

I don't know when we can complete our development of baseball system, in Taiwan, the most important thing is politics. The official has no time to promote our sports. Fortunately, Taiwanese athletes are all genius, if they have great achievement, the government will kiss their ass, because they want to appear on TV. However, if they don't, their funds will be limited. Even you get the good job, you have to try to convince the government officials.

The match today was not just a game, we need to find a solution. I wish one day our government will wake up.

Taipei 101

Taipei 101 was the highest buliding in the world, though the new hotel in Arab has already exceeded it last year. However I am still proud of that is the higher buliding in the world. You have to think Taiwan is a small island but we have high-tech construction and architecture.

If you come to Taiwan, you absolutely have to take lift up to 101st floor in Taipei. When you on there, you will see the wonderful view. Now I want to show you the firework show on there, every New Year's Eve, you can enjoy that and a lot of Taiwanese would like to watch that. If you come, I hope you can see that.^_^

My last day in homestay......

I think I will miss them so much. After I come back Aussie, I will stay in another accommodation, sharehouse. I have already lived in homestay for half a year. During this period, they gave me instruction of English a lot. For example, sometimes I would ask them my problems of homework and they were alway willing to teach me. Eventually, they would give me more and more extra information. I think now my English is getting better because of them.

The family has three people, Bob, Carina and their pretty girl, Carmela. Bob has a factory and designs many kinds of products for their customers. I think he has really been a successful businessman, he will be a good example for me to study much harder. I hope I can get a good employment.

Carina is a homemaker. Before she has a Japanese restaurant. She had worked in Japan for about 10 years, so her Japanese is very good. I admire her cooking which is fantastic and I always invite her to operate a restaurant in Taiwan. Every dinner time, no matter waht I would come back for dinner, if I didn't eat her cooking, I would feel upset. That's true. Now I believe an advertising slogan, if you want to catch one guy, you have to know his appetite.

They have a about two-year
-old child. She is very chatty and active. Although I can't understand waht she say almost, she would show up her feeling to let us know, very clever. Firstly I came there, she couldn't walk very well now she can run. I love to post her video in my Blog.^_^

Finally, I want to appreciate them to give me help a lot. I will keep in touch with them.^_^

Moreton Island on 13th & 14th Oct.

It's my first time to go tothe place far from Brisbane. The date was on 13th & 14th October. I have to apologize that the dates of the article is getting upside down, because I always have an idea for a while.

This is my travelling in Moreton Island. I am very glad to meet so many friends in here, though we speak Chinese a lot...ha. However we usually speak in Chinese in school. Anyway, the point is this specific experience.

In the first day, a funny tour guide waited for us at the Hillton Hotel. He was hilarious and humorous person. During driving to the harbor, he made a lot of joking and let us feel this is a wounderful day. Actually it was. This was my second time to take the ship, the first time was in Taiwan, we planned to go to Green Island, belong Taiwan. In the ship, I thought everyody was so excited that we took pictures a lot, unfortunately, we forgot bringing the binoculars. Why? Because there were many dolphins, whales and shakes would show up.

Anyway, we arrived the Island eventually. The tourguide took us to our camping site. There was very natural because it's my first time to feel that flies occupied this island, so many. In addition, they would follow you to go anywhere, that's the only fault in this Island. After then, we went to beautiful beach and swam in the sea. From the camping to there, the funny guy drove us roughly. In the car, we were just like in the earthquake because of the rough road.

In the second day, there were some activities such as sand boarding, snorkelling in the lake, camping in Moreton Island and so on. Especially sand boarding, that's really exciting, however, the sand hill is too high to climb many times, therefor we just played this twice and went to go snorkelling. Waht a wounderful day! However, time was up. We still had to go back. I would never forget this travelling. There are so many fantastic views, if you want you can click my Album and you will see waht I said.^^

It's my turn.....^^

Time goes by so quickly. I just think about lots of my friends in Langports have graduated, today, it’s my turn. I am very great to meet so many good friends in Langports and I hope that we are going to keep in touch and keep improving our English.

This morning, I felt very good and the weather was perfect, not too cold and not too hot. I thought today I would have a nice day. Firstly, the morning class teacher wanted to give some special instruction, because she considered that some pupils had been thinking about the party tonight. I learnt a lot of drugs’ names, especially Ecstacy. I had a good memory in the last morning class. I have to memorize all the vocabularies someday. Don’t worry, I definitely will do this. In the focus class, we still had some fictitious condition to practice in English.

In the afternoon, the option class, IELTS, although I may not attend this exam again, the teacher, Jill, I really love to attend her class. I can learn a lot of skills of IELTS and I am interested in it. I will miss the teacher, by the way, she also is a IELTS examiner.

Eventually, it's my turn, the graduation. I am very happy that some friends who have graduated still came back to join my graduation. In this studying period, I really glad to make many people who come from different countries. Recalling last year, I never thought about studying abroad, but I am in Aussie now.^^By the way, I am astonished that I found many other countries people, Thailand, Korean, Japanese classmates and a Aussie teacher, they can spreak Chinese very well. At night, in the graduation party, there were three Taiwaneses also graduated and fifty people came to here. That is a wonderful night. Thanks guys, I will miss everybody.

This stage is finished. I will enter another one, I think I will encounter more and more different and difficult things. However, I have to overcome those. God bless me Godspeed!

Long time no typing

Long time no see everybody. I haven’t written my article for a long time. Tonight, I am sitting on the chair and opening my laptop. Suddenly, I have some ideas which want to share with my friends and post on my Blog.

Actually, I went to a lot of popular places such as River Festival, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Springbrook National Park, Mt. Cootha, Moreton Island and so on. I visited so many places because of the IELTS I finally finished that exam. I just want to relieve my stress. I put myself under the pressure too long, so after that, no more test pressure in my mind again.

Firstly, I love to talk about Gold Coast. I still remember that my friend told me I was the only person who didn’t go to Gold Coast yet, but I didn’t care about that, because travelling is not my target in Aussie. However, after the exam, there is the first place where I want to go, because many people recommended me to go there. In addition, I want to see a Japanese friend who is working there.

We met at the train station in the morning, whereas some people were late so we delayed to start off. In Australia, everything is expensive but I am astonished that the many prices are higher than U.S.A., so we poor students have to find another method to resist this unreasonable circumstance. The detail I can’t tell you, but you want to know please tell me, if you want to economize the money. ^^

When we arrived Gold Coast, I just wanted to shout, What a marvellous spot. Beautiful beach, limpid sea, and bikini girls, you would suppose that you are in the paradise. There were one thing let me feel fascinated that is many distinct waves. When you enjoyed the wave coming, you would find so many different kinds of that. I stayed in the sea for a long time, it’s really nice experience, if you come to Australia, don’t forget to go to there.

Freedom of Information

It 's very important to me to have unrestricted freedom of information. Freedom of information can enable me to search for facts or materials without limitations. I can reach a correct conclusion by comparing different opinions. If information is limited, we all may live in the world of untruth. For example, people go to a library to search for information, and of the books all are controlled by authorities our opinions will be insipid and no innovation. The nation will be weak.

I think my government and the broadcasting corporations have made deals in order to control news sources because authorities want to benefit from the news. In Taiwan, some news channels always report the positive policies of the government. Once a journalist wanted to disclose the government of corruption but his boss blocked it that.

The news on TV, nowadays, is becoming a product which just wants to get good rating without in-depth or questioning reporting. When I was a student reporter, I saw many journalists falsify the news to acquire a high rating. Eventually, other reporters copied that. I strongly distrust the news on TV. In addition, the politicians often use the media, especially the television, and make some false agendas to attack their opponents.

Sometimes governments impose controls on the feedom of the press which is very dangerous. In Taiwan, this situation once happened and caused a huge protestation. People want objective news that isn't imposed by the government. If the government consistently wants to control the whole communications. they will be eliminated by people.

Summary-principal's speech

One hundred years ago, people were educated at school is free so the teaching unit would concentrate on education. However, today the education institutes have to advertise their advantage, professional and "why you should study in here?" I think we have to connect between education and marketing. Education is a service industry so we must make a blueprint and think about the strategy.

Nowadays, we can see many educational institutes advertising on the street. On the one hand, we have a lot of opportunities such as cram schools, colleges, public uni and private uni. Education has already entered an economic period and become the product, an intangible product. Students become consumers bur the product must be heterogeneous because students have many different personalities, abilities and intelligence. It is contentious that we should find the best method.

The teachers are in front-line and they are the best advertising for school. I think that is the reason the students would like to participate in the school. Overall, marketing is really an important element. The authorities have to set up a completed educational system.

Wang, Jian Min

Wang, Jian Min is a pitcher of baseball. He is in New York Yankee baseball team now. His perfect sinker and speed are attracted by the whole American and many countries. The most important is that he is Taiwanese.


His agent found him when he was a senior high school student. The agent went to watch the league match of teenage baseball. He saw the pitcher of the game and felt incredible so he convinced his manger to train him. The agent arranged a chain of training courses and he knew he find an a great athlete.

Wang can learn the baseball skill nad knowledge quickly. He defeated many opponents as well. One day, his boss told hom if he can win the next match. He would attend the MLB( Major League Baseball ). Many Taiwanese immigrants came to the important game in favor of Wang. They expected Wang will make another marvel.

The day, he attended the MLB, was coming. So many his supporters came to see this game. I think Wang is not only auspicious but also effort to baseball in passion. I am not surprised to his accomplishment so far. I believe that he is an example of working hard you will get your own achievement therefore. I wish our baseball development is getting strong.

TECHNOLOGY-POLLUTION

I think technology makes our world become civilized and we will further benefit from it. Technology constructs many products such as cars, ships, aircrafts, spacecraft and many kinds of vehicles. In addition, computers and the Internet were the most important inventions because for a long time, these have given us a better quality of life.

For long time ago, People even considered the earth a flat land, nowdays, the people have known the world is round because of technology. I believe technology's development is going to bring more and more knowledge for us and we can get the information from the whole world better than beore.

On the other hand, I think we have too much information about the world and neglect to protect the world. Pollution is more serious than before. The human just want the resources of the earth and exhaust so many contaminant if we don't do anything to prevent this thhing from getting worse. Our earth's environment will become dangerous than before.

Satisfaction in your job is more than money you earn

I'm really in two minds about satisfaction in my job or earning a lot of money.

First of all, there are so many reasons for finding a great occupation. The most important point is that after graguating certificate and I want to start working in a wellknown company. In my opinion, we have to take charge of my life, and and I am not alone in this opinion. Many consider a wonderful life, a great house and even a beautiful wife like a movie star.

Secondly, if I can earn a lot of money in a short time, I will do so many things. Moreover, I'll be about to travel the whole world and buy a great baseball team in the MLB. However, it could be disputed that it is too greedy and extravagant. Furthermore, if I just want to earn moneyand it's not a satisfaction working environment, I would be depress every day.

On the one hand, I would please to go to work and learn everything quickly. On the other hand, I could climb the career ladderfrom it. Nevertheless, it is not easy to find satisfaction in a job that I want. Unfortunately, another point is that, in Taiwan every parent would like our prospect to be great, especially money.

But I believe that the society is getting to take in the aspect of finding satisfaction in the job is better than earning the money.

Sun Tzu--On The Art of War

Sun Tzu was a native of Ch'i who by means of his book on the art of war secured an audience with Ho-lu, King of Wu. He was our ancestry and born one thousand years ago. Despite the dynasty it is very distant, his book, On The Art of War, still communicates many centuries and up to now, many countries have used his book in the war and economy.

For example, the Japanese seriously take care of their economy and they consider that Sun Tzu On The Art of War is the key of the victory so far. The U.S. marines all have this book and they won the war of the Gulf in forty days. More and more countries are going to study this book because whether military or finance they all have an enormous influence on the war and economy.

Sun Tzu was born in a chaostic period. His country had many civil wars so he ran away to Wu country. At this moment, he went to the countryside and to be a farmer until Wu's ministry recommend him to the King of Wu and the King commissioned him to be a general. In this general, he won so many wars. Of that, Wu country become the King of the Chinese area.

It is a pity that no nobody knows his later life and death even the historian . However, his book, The Art of War, thirteen lessons have communicated until now. No matter in China or in foregin, they all have found that this is the first strategics book in the world. I'm very proud of the Chinese ancestry which is popular on the earth and we will use this knowledge to help our country to be much better.

Athletes

I acknowledge that the best athletes need more and more practice because they have to prepare the important matches such as the Olympics for a long time. That's why the Olympics is such a significant ceremony. All the top athletes want to challenge the champion.

I think these excellent sport players still need to be supported by their government. The official commissions could make a standard to give them prizes if their performances are fantastic. The most important thing is athletes never betray their original principles.

During the match's period, you will see many circumstances believed the dynamics and they used that to find waht kind of methods they could create the most effect. Many journalists liked to make a hierarchy for them and illustrated their circumstances. The analysis is inevitable.

I like this article very much. It's my first time to use Chinese in my Blog because it's really fantastic. I'm sorry for my foreign friends. I think it's really good for Taiwan.

要有「我會影響中國」的信心總編輯觀點》梭羅從香港經驗看台灣機會

十年前的香港，由英國殖民政府的手中，移交到中華人民共和國手上。當時一國兩制的前景不明，香港社會人心惶惶，梭羅因而親眼見證了一波港人的移民潮；十年後的今天，香港以中國做為腹地的策略成功，經濟榮景甚至更勝殖民時期，港人出現移民回流潮，搶占經濟成長商機，梭羅也在此時此刻見證她的繁榮。這次，梭羅不只談東方之珠的今昔與未來、香港與中國關係，更談香港經驗帶給台灣的啟示。梭羅認為，香港證明了一國兩制可行，但一國兩制卻不一定是台灣的選項；而台灣如果要維繫繁榮現況，前提是必須要有面對中國的勇氣。

以下是談話摘要：《商業周刊》問（以下簡稱問）：
你曾經說過，在香港回歸之後，將不會有所謂獨立的香港經濟，它會成為中國的一部分；如今，香港回歸十週年，你正處於香港，見證她的經濟繁榮。這十年間，香港的表現，是否比你預期中來得好？
梭羅答（以下簡稱答）：我想是的。香港的表現遠比預期的來得更好。回歸十年來，香港因為改變而得利十年前，當中國即將接管（take over）香港，香港充滿悲觀的氣氛。當時有一位香港籍的企業家朋友親口告訴我，說他想移民到加拿大去。但現在，香港人不再那麼想移民了，反而有許多人移了回來。加拿大的溫哥華如今有一個全世界最空曠的中國城，就是因為原來許多取得加拿大公民資格的移民，如今紛紛回到香港賺錢。其實，香港剛被接管時，沒有人能真的知道香港未來會變成怎麼樣。那時有個爭論：「到底中國會越來越像香港，還是香港會越來越像中國？」現在看來是前者，中國越來越像香港了。

問：你會如何描述香港在這十年間的改變？
答：我第一次拜訪香港，是在西元一九五○年之前，那時香港還是以製造為主（make manufacturing），她做珠寶、做衣服，但今天，香港還剩下多少的製造業呢？她已經完全轉型為服務經濟，她有個世界級水準的機場；她提供資本市場、提供法律服務、會計，做金融服務，服務整個大中國地區。香港因為改變而得利；新加坡以全世界為腹地發展經濟，香港則以中國為腹地，提供服務。 香港已經真正成為一國兩制下的經濟體（Two economies,One government）。

中國可以無香港，但香港不能沒有中國問：在回歸的這十年間，是中國幫助香港多？還是香港幫助中國多？
答：是中國幫助香港；某些方面說來，香港為中國注入許多企業家，這些企業家承擔風險，提供就業，幫助中國；但即使沒有香港，中國還是會快速的成長。香港需要中國、中國卻不一定需要香港。

問：兩者是夥伴，還是主從的關係？
答：我想她們是夥伴，但香港對中國而言只是很小的夥伴，中國還有很多夥伴。香港有多少人？七百萬人口，而中國有十三億的人口。香港已是中國的一部分了，如果中國失敗，香港怎麼可能單獨成功呢？如果不獲得中國的支持，香港怎麼可能單獨做自己想做的事呢？相反的，中國的成功並不是因為是香港，沒有香港，中國經濟還是會成長，中國成功是因為中國內部改變了。問：你的意思是，中國大陸是香港經濟成長主要動力？答：是的。香港未來的角色，會是中國的新加坡。問：當香港經濟越來越依賴中國，會有什麼風險？答：風險是，香港能不能繼續維持目前金融服務中心的地位。我想她會的，但不會是唯一或一定是最大。洛杉磯不是紐約市，但她還是很成功。

問：上海與香港常被拿來相提並論，尤其香港人很擔心被上海取代，你怎麼看這兩地的競爭？
答：我認為這兩個城市之間的競爭關係是很健康的；而兩者並不是你輸我贏（win or lose game）的關係。就像是美國有不只一個金融中心一樣，未來的中國也不會只有一個金融中心。洛杉磯是美國西南的金融重鎮，但美國還有紐約、芝加哥、舊金山等城市，扮演不同的功能。所以中國也一樣，會有上海，會有香港，而這兩個城市會扮演不同的角色。兩岸在經濟上，採一國兩制是可行的問：十年前，香港當初回歸時，氣氛很悲觀，但現在狀況完全不一樣，這意味著，中國政府在這十年間，做對了什麼嗎？答：中國做對的是，她沒有干涉（香港）經濟，讓香港維持她的經濟自由。當時她可以選擇要讓香港變得更像中國，或讓中國更像香港，她選擇了後者。中國在經濟上採取非常柔性的手段（put soft hand in terms of economy），但在政治上強硬（put hard hand is in terms of politics）。這個方法在香港是奏效的。

問：兩岸議題在台灣一直爭議不休，目前看來並沒有解決之道；而香港則因中國而在經濟上獲益。如果台灣想要重新思索經濟政策，香港的經驗有值得台灣取法之處嗎？
答：一國兩制是可行的（works），但兩個政府是行不通的。對台灣來說，關鍵是兩個政府，經濟上，你可以實施一國兩制，甚至或許是一國三制（one country,three economies），但不可能同時（一個國家）有兩個政府。

問：你的意思是說，一國兩制在香港適用，但也許在台灣並不可行？
答：從經濟的角度來看，即使台灣經濟與香港並不類似，（一國）同時有兩個制度是可行的；但政治上，是困難的。台灣的情況與香港不同。台灣現在是獨立的狀態，假使你是台灣總統，會希望中國統治台灣嗎？雖然香港的經濟一向是獨立的，但是她一直不曾擁有過民主，過去的特首是英國任命，從來不曾選舉，因此中國政府可以對她說，你為什麼要民主，你根本不曾擁有它！但是台灣不同，台灣有民主，可以選舉，有自己的政府，這樣的制度（一國兩制）對台灣來說，政治上的改變遠比香港來得大。

問：從你的角度看來，過去十年香港實施一國兩制最大的爭議是什麼？
答：我想爭議相對是很小的。中華人民共和國要政治，而香港想要經濟。現在香港因為中國而賺了很多錢。

問：展望未來十年，你認為香港的前景是光明的嗎？
答：當然（absolutely）。只要政府不犯錯，北京政府不干涉，香港經濟可望繼續維持。而對北京來說，並沒有什麼要多加干涉的理由。

台灣早該開放，這錯失的十年很難趕上問：你同意香港與台灣是競爭者嗎？你怎麼比較兩地？
答：兩者是有一點競爭。但根本上，兩地非常不同。第一，台灣是一個國家，但香港是城市；第二，香港沒有儲蓄（no saving），中國的投資不是直接來自香港，而是香港之外；但台灣不同，有很多的儲蓄，台商是中國最大的投資者，許多台灣的資金是利用香港作為通道；第三，香港提供服務，但台灣不能，台灣是製造中心。問：台灣可以從香港成功經驗中學到些什麼？答：香港是服務中心，這是台灣必須學的。製造與服務，兩者可以並行。香港不做製造，這是她的劣勢；但相對的，台灣的劣勢是只做製造。許多台灣人希望將台北改造為服務中心（service capital），但現在的問題出在台灣政府身上。台灣執政黨非常害怕讓中國人進來，他們正在犯錯。如果說，早年企業要選擇在中國或台北上市，它們會選擇台北，因為這是資金所在的地方，如果過去台灣能夠採取開放的策略，台灣可以在中國大陸取得經濟優勢，資本與人才都會流向台灣；但台灣因為害怕中國會取而代之，沒有這麼做。如今，資金和人才已經流向中國大陸了。

問：你的意思是，台灣錯失了時機？
答：是的。台灣錯失時機，台灣也許應該在十年前就對中國開放。

問：台灣有機會趕上過去錯失的十年嗎？
答：很難。十年就是十年，失去十年是很長的時間，會造成很大的不同。

問：在什麼情況之下，台灣可以成功的轉型？台灣不夠勇敢，開放，才能掌握未來的機會答：開放台北到上海的直航，這是最佳的解決方案。為什麼不開放台北到上海的直飛班機呢？為什麼繞道香港？這麼多的人為了到上海，必須到香港轉機，讓香港賺進大筆資金。如今上海已是中國金融中心，你們不必透過香港，為什麼要經過香港？

問：那麼台灣如何掌握未來的機會？
答：開放。台灣要有「我會影響中國，而非中國會影響我」的信心。台灣應該想，「這是我們改變中國的機會」。台灣不夠勇敢（Taiwan isn't bold enough）。一直以來，台灣總是擔心會被中國擊倒（collapsed by china），但這是錯的。從資本累積的角度來看，如果說有誰會擊敗誰的話，中國會先被台灣擊倒。台灣很小，中國十三億人口，台灣只有二千三百萬，即使台灣再三倍大，相對中國還是小的。但小的經濟體自有其競爭優勢，你們應該有一個可以推動經濟（push up economy）的政府。推動經濟是政府很重要的責任。兩岸的關鍵是在台灣政府上。你們從不願與北京對談。台灣如果想要維持現況，一定要與北京坐下來談。如果不談，就只能夠猜測對方的想法。

問：你是說如果台灣政府的態度不改變，兩岸關係就不會改變？
答：就是如此。

問：統獨好像是個僵局？
答：為什麼？現況可以繼續。過去五十年台灣維持自主，未來也可以。就像是波多黎各，她不是美國的一部分，但與美國關係緊密，幾乎可以視為美國的一部分。

問：你曾經提過，國家經濟已經被全球經濟取代，在這個新時代，就台灣這麼小型的經濟體而言，有沒有什麼突圍之道？政府應該扮演的角色是什麼？
答：放手（hands off）。讓資本主義能夠發揮它的功能，讓世界運轉的是經濟與資本，並不是政府的管制。政府最重要的事是，投資教育、做基礎建設。教育仍然是經濟成功最重要的要素，沒有教育，沒有人才，就不可能掌握新經濟。要掌握人才有兩種方式，不是自己教育，就是要設法吸引受過教育的人才。即使是小經濟體，仍然可以掌握競爭優勢，挪威、瑞士都是很好的例子。

Sorrowful City

The movie what I like is called "Sorrowful City". It's by a Taiwanese director, Hou, Siao-Sian,who won a world prize for it. I'm very pround of him and very excited because this was the first time a Taiwanese production was on the world stage.

The story is very complicated. It describes the "February-Twenty-Eighth incident"about fifty years ago in Taiwan. All Taiwanese remember this terrible history. That was a tragic period in Taiwan when the Repubic of China retreated from China to Taiwan so the government was furious to the Communists. They execute some innocent people who support us.

That is the movie summary. It was incredible to produce this kind of cinema in that time but I think people have to face this event all the time. In addition, I like the main actor, Liang, Jhao-Wei, he is the best actor in Asia. I'd recommend it to everybody who like a calssic movie about the history.

Taiwan news

I heard a terrible thing from my Taiwanese friends. Two trains clashed the day before yesterday. According to the news announcer, there were 5 people died and about 17 pepole hurt. That's really tragic to hear that. You know one of the 5 people she will get married tomorrow and wait her fiance. Her family is very sad deeply. I think nobody can take that.

On the other hand, there is a TV show very popular now in Taiwan. It's called Walk of Fame. My sister told me about this. I didn't watch it before and I still don't know what it is so far. My sister said my brother you are really disconnected with Taiwan. Ha......==

I know there are so many things happened in Taiwan.Today I use the Internet to contact with my parents. I think this is the most advantage because you don't need to pay. They were very delighted and we use the video telephone.

I wish Taiwan is getting better. God bless Taiwan.

IEP Course

So many friends were graduated recently and I all felt very surprised to know that. "You will graduate this friday? I just know you?!" This sentence I often speak to them in the past days. It's really like the passer-by. You can see many students just graduate and many new students enter. When I entered the military system, I learned one thing that was you must remembered friends' or partners' names because this is respect. In Langports, everday you will see so many new faces. My method is asking their mobile numbers and inputting the names. I think that is a good idea because you know how to spell and pronounce.

Next week I will change my class again. That course is about the IELTS and the university papers. Yesterday I just sign a contract the content is you cannot speak Language unless English. You cannot have a holiday unless the Weelend....etc. I feel a little bie nervous. I hope taht will let me test the IELTS easier. Goodluck to myself and my friends. Lone Pine ZOO

Today is Queen's Birthday so I get a holiday. Recalling these past days, I think that is very well to let me be flexible. Parties and travelling, those really let me close to my new friends. My Taiwanese friend ,賴皮, called me yesterday and wanted to know if I am ok now. I'm so happy because he came to Australia before and he always gives me a lot of suggestions. I hope he can come to Austrlia again.

The first time to dance in the party. You never worry about you can not dance no body care because you come here just want to release. Despite that you can see the Latin Americans they are dancer inborn. Everybody was drinking, conversation and dancing. Tired but joyful.

So many students graduated last Friday. AYAKA,SATOMI and Joeng I just know you. Time passes quickly I think it is very quick to me to graduate. The celebration tonight, I also met a lot of new friends. I hope we are not just passers-by, keep in touch,please.

The Lone Pine Zoo was my first to see many animals aren't closed in the cage even you can touch them especially kangaroos. We saw many shows that day include eagle hunting and sheep dog shows and many animals you never see before. I got many beautiful pictures if you want you can click my Album.

I passed the test and prepare into the IEP course next week. I feel last week it really let me relax because the more different and difficult challenge is waiting for me.

The Weekend's Plans

In the past two days, I took my new homemates to go around the city. They come from Hong Kong and are preparing to study at QUT. They are very young, I feel......old.

The first day, I took the bus to State Library of Queensland because they wanted to get on the Internet. Late we went to take the City Cat to QUT and City Gardens. When we were in the Taiwanese Market, I met my friend unexpectly. I spoke pleasurably with her in Chinese for a while.

On Sunday, I went to Toombul with my friends. I invited my homemates and we took the train to the city. However we had to get the bus from Toombul to the DFO, the biggest market in Brisbane. I bought sandals and my homemates spent a lot of money on clothes and pants. The market,DFO,is really enormous and there are a lot of name-brands. I thought everyone all bought the product what they wanted. What a magnificent day. However I still have to economize on shopping and can't be extravagant in Australia.

Gaps

I feel I have already lived in Australia for almost one month. In the past days I always had new experiences such as visiting some places by myself, going to play basketball with many people the other countries and gradually finding new friends.

However I consider that there are many gaps between us and still we have no idea about how we stride across them. For example, although we can practice with each other in English but we still have gaps, Korean groups, Japanese groups.Sometimes I thought I was so stubborn that I can not join either Japanese groups, Korean groups or Taiwanese groups because I insist on speaking English. Too many countries have too many cultures. Despite that I feel alone in Australia but going to the QUT is my target. I thought we could open our minds. If we had bad feelings just talking will help. I think conversation is only one way to melt our prejudice and to build a bridge between us.

Soccer Day on Saturday

Yesterday was the first time to go to see the soccer game. The last time I watch the soccer game was on TV the Soccer Would Cup. On the other hand I went to UQ because I wanted to ask about the softball team I want to join. My favorite teacher,Bella,gave me an information about Australia Softball Assocoation website. Maybe I can pick one team to join. I regreted that I forget to take my baseball glove ==.For me the soccer is a little boring ha.

Actually in here I have some bottleneck. I think maybe I'm too stubborn to attend the activitis because I worry about my expenses. In Australia everything is expensive but sometimes just don't want to go. Satirically I...... don't know what I want. Maybe I just miss my familiar place.I know my target is to get the IELTS 5.5 at least. I need to learn how to be adapted in here.

Guys. Are you all right? Miss you ......
